Project status: active

Tinnitus is a disabling medical disorder. Its psychosocial impact is significant, as it can cause anxiety, depression, stress, irritability, and concentration and sleep disorders that affect communication, education, work and mental health, quality of life, and also day-to-day living.

The brain basis for tinnitus and its impact on hearing health have been the focus of considerable attention in scientific literature. Yet the relationship between brain dysfunction, psychological processes and the clinical signs of tinnitus remain ill-defined.

This inter-disciplinary study led by Prof. Severine Samson and Prof. Alain Londero aims to better understand the mechanisms that cause tinnitus, while thoroughly assessing the hearing, and psycho-emotional and cognitive behavior of individuals who suffer from this hearing disorder.
